About us

SVALHOLM DANS

Choreographer Nønne Mai Svalholm has been the artistic director of Svalholm Dans since 2008, and has received a 3-year work grant from the Danish Arts Council in Aarhus.

She has worked as a choreographer for choreographer Kitt Johnson and choreographer Maria Brolin-Tani, and has worked with choreographer/ artistic director Tim Rushton, Danish Dance Theater, as a young choreography talent.

Svalholm is educated at the Ballet Academy in Stockholm, Fontys University and the Conservatory in Holland, and at Dance Space and STEPS in New York.

We create and produce dance performances, with choreographer Nønne Mai Svalholm as the artistic director, from our base at Godsbanen (the old trainfactory) in the center of Aarhus, Denmark.

Our main focus since 2015 is to create performances inspired by the theme ”Ageing”, with people over the age of 60 performing on stage. At the moment, we are developing a new performance entitled ULTIMA (last, final) with 60 elderly men and women on stage. We look forward to the premiere on 12. December 2017 at theatre Bora Bora in Aarhus. ULTIMA is co-produced by theatre Bora Bora and supported by Aarhus 2017 European Capital of Culture.

”Circuit – a reflection on ageing” from 2016 was our first performance on the theme ”Ageing”, and it tours Denmark for the first time in September 2017 - stay tuned.

Secondly, we create and produce cultural events, festivals and longer cultural exchange projects within choreography, dance, performance and art film in Denmark and abroad.
We have extensive experience in collaborating with embassies, official cultural organisations and professional artists around the world – in particular in the MENA region (Middle East/North Africa). We have, among others, collaborated with the Danish Embassies and Institutes in France, Greece, Lebanon, Morocco, Egypt and Syria, and a wide range of cultural organisations in Denmark.
